Warsaw is the capital and largest city of Poland, situated on the Vistula River in east-central Poland. It was almost entirely destroyed during World War II and was painstakingly rebuilt, with its reconstructed Old Town recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is now a major European financial and cultural center.
