Yamaguchi is the capital of Yamaguchi Prefecture in the Chūgoku region at the western tip of Honshu, Japan. During the 15th century it was called the Kyoto of the West due to the influence of the ruling Ōuchi clan, and it retains several historic temples and a distinctive five-story pagoda.
